V. Gokhale published a note (<a href=\"http:\/\/prajnaquest.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ratnagotravibhaga_1.52__bhagavadgita_13.32_gokhale_1955.pdf\">ratnagotravibhaga_1.52_=_bhagavadgita_13.32_gokhale_1955<\/a>) calling attention to the parallel between its verse 1.52 and <em>Bhagavad-g\u012bt\u0101<\/em> verse 13.32. Both verses give a comparison with space (<em>\u0101k\u0101\u015ba<\/em>) in the same words. The <em>Bhagavad-g\u012bt\u0101<\/em> verse speaks of the <em>\u0101tman<\/em>, the \u201cself,\u201d while the parallel <em>Ratna-gotra-vibh\u0101ga<\/em> verse speaks of the <em>dh\u0101tu<\/em>, the \u201celement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Bhagavad-g\u012bt\u0101<\/em> 13.32:<\/p>\n<p>yath\u0101 sarva-gata\u1e43 sauk\u1e63my\u0101d \u0101k\u0101\u015ba\u1e43 n\u00f4palipyate |<br \/> sarvatr\u00e2vasthito dehe tath\u00e2tm\u0101 n\u00f4palipyate || 13.32 ||<\/p>\n<p>Just as all-pervading space, due to its subtlety, is not tainted, so the <em>\u0101tman<\/em>, everywhere established in the body, is not tainted.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ratna-gotra-vibh\u0101ga<\/em> 1.52:<\/p>\n<p>yath\u0101 sarva-gata\u1e43 sauk\u1e63my\u0101d \u0101k\u0101\u015ba\u1e43 n\u00f4palipyate |<br \/> sarvatr\u00e2vasthita\u1e25 sattve tath\u00e2ya\u1e43 n\u00f4palipyate || 1.52 ||<\/p>\n<p>Just as all-pervading space, due to its subtlety, is not tainted, so this [the <em>dh\u0101tu<\/em>], everywhere established in the living being, is not tainted.<\/p>\n<p>The pronoun \u201cthis\u201d (<em>ayam<\/em>) refers back to the <em>dh\u0101tu<\/em> in the preceding verse 1.49:<\/p>\n<p>sarvatr\u00e2nugata\u1e43 yadvan nirvikalp\u00e2tmaka\u1e43 nabha\u1e25 |<br \/> citta-prak\u1e5bti-vaimalya-dh\u0101tu\u1e25 sarvatra-gas tath\u0101 || 1.49 ||<\/p>\n<p>Just as space, whose nature is non-conceptual, is everywhere-pervading, so the <em>dh\u0101tu<\/em>, which is the purity of the nature of mind, is everywhere-pervading.<\/p>\n<p>If these two parallel verses are representative, the <em>dh\u0101tu<\/em> in the teachings of the <em>Ratna-gotra-vibh\u0101ga<\/em> holds the same place as the <em>\u0101tman<\/em> holds in the teachings of the <em>Bhagavad-g\u012bt\u0101<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not long after the Sanskrit text of the Ratna-gotra-vibh\u0101ga was first published (1950), V.
